The Swiss support association makes monthly payments which funds the wages of all the teachers and support staff – in total about 30 people – as well as covers the basic costs of the school’s day-to-day ongoing operations, from text books to dinner plates.

Food for all – 50 Chf

On school days, lunch is provided by the UN World Food Programme, and we supplement the lunch meals on weekends and during the school holidays. We supply breakfast for the children to enable them to concentrate during the morning, as well as giving the teachers a morning snack.

This donation will provide the weekend meals for all for one month.

 

Clothes, Shoes and Books – 100 CHF

Not yet covered is the basic need for clothes and shoes. We want to encourage sport and play in nearby facilities through the procurement of footballs and appropriate shoes.

We also hope to tackle nutrition problems soon, such as regularly offering the children avocados, a popular and very nutritious fruit.

This donation purchases 10 new sets of school clothes, 10 new pairs of football shoes or 30 textbooks.

 

Scholarships for Secondary School – 250 Chf

We are looking for ways to help the children after they complete Primary School – ways to prevent them from falling back into slum life. There are at least 12 children who could go on to complete their education at a high school if they were given a grant. For other children, we are looking to help them find meaningful job and training opportunities to allow them to work and improve their living situation.

This donation provides a scholarship for one year.

 

New Buildings and Infrastructure – 1000 Chf

Another two-story building with six classrooms is under construction, and more facilities are planned: a kindergarten, staff room, storage for school supplies, toilet facilities, and an outdoor area with sidewalks. A kitchen and a dining hall – funded by other donors – were completed this year.

We were able to rebuild after the fire a building with three classrooms and an office space. We used concrete foundations which prevents the soil being washed away in the rain, as well as proper windows. The design also makes provision for the rainy season with water troughs to collect seepage and roof water.

This donation allows the construction of a classroom.

 

The Cottier-Donzé Foundation plans in cooperation with Stara to build a home for girls who are in a particularly difficult housing situation.
